With busy season approaching, I wanted to share some tips on how to best prepare for your engagement session. Even if you don’t have a session booked with me, you’ll still benefit from this vital information. 🙂

Your engagement session is a time to celebrate you and your fiancĂ© and this very special season in your lives! The photos from this session will make for some great Save-the-Date cards as well as a beautiful display to be shown off at your wedding and reception. So, how do you prepare for an engagement session? Here are some tips I’d love to share with you!

Tip #1. Clean your ring!
That pretty ring of yours deserves to sparkle and shine. Cleaning it will ensure the most beautiful photos. I use a macro lens for ring shots, so any tiny little speck of dirt will show. For Insta-3.jpg

Tip #2. Plan your outfits!
Pick outfits that reflect your personalities. Have more than one outfit for a variety of different looks. Coordinate, but don’t match. When there is too much of one hue in a shot, everything sort of blends together and nothing stands out. AK L&A.jpg

Tip #3. Browse the blog!
Look at other engagement sessions I’ve photographed for ideas on posing, outfits, and how my couples interact. This will make you both feel at ease and better prepared for what’s to come!Jen + Greg-58.jpg

Tip #4. Choose a location!
If you have a location that’s special to you both (somewhere you had your first date, or another precious memory you share), please let me/your photographer know. If you don’t have any ideas of where to go, then we’ll get an idea of what your style is like and search for the best options.Skye + Sean-5.jpg

Tip #5. Consider the time of your session!
Sunrise and sunset are the two best times of the day to hold your session. Why? Because of that dreamy, romantic light! The best light truly comes during these two times. Also, think about the crowds in the evening. Hardly anyone will be up and out & about during sunrise, so if you’re an early-bird, let’s shoot then!Jenna + Kody-11.jpg

I’d love for you to share this blog post with your engaged friends and family members! In the comments, please feel free to ask questions, or tell me about your proposal story!
