The engagement session is such a great way to celebrate you becoming husband & wife, and to get all of your family and friends excited for your wedding day! The photos from your session make beautiful gifts as well as being used for your save-the-dates. Here are some helpful tips to get you better prepared for your session. For Insta-2.jpg#1. Pick clothes that reflect your personalities! Normally we’d all want to pick something fancy and something that we’ll most likely not ever wear on a typical day. That’s usually a big mistake! If it doesn’t reflect who you are as a couple, don’t wear it. Sure, you don’t want to show up to your session wearing sweatpants and a hoodie, but you want to feel comfortable while looking your absolute best. Maggie + Eddie-6.jpg#2. Choose clothes that you feel comfortable in! This tip is twofold. Yes, you should totally choose clothes that are literally comfortable to wear, but at the same time, you need to choose outfits that make you look your best. Be sure that whatever you end up wearing gives you the confidence you need to strut your stuff in front of the camera!Anna + Ian-43.jpg#3. Choose clothes that compliment each other! If you’re rocking your favorite little black dress, then your fiance probably shouldn’t bust out his ripped jeans and Bob’s Burger t-shirt. Similarly, you both probably want to stay away from wearing busy patterns. Plan early and try out your favorite picks the day before the engagement session.K&K L&A.jpg#4. Embrace layers! One quick and super easy way to give yourself multiple looks with only one outfit is to incorporate layering into your style for the day. And whatever layers you end up taking off, like a sweater or a hat, can be used as cute props for the engagement session.Sara & Andy.jpg#5. Keep the season in mind! It seems pretty obvious that you shouldn’t wear a sundress in the middle of winter, or a peacoat when it’s 90 degrees outside, but I wouldn’t mention it if I hadn’t seen it happen. So check the forecast, prepare, and work with the weather that you’ve got. If you end up really having your heart set on a particular season, then schedule your engagement session for that time rather than fake it. Trust me, you can always tell when the environment and the outfit selections don’t mesh. For Insta-4.jpg#6. Consider the landscape! If your session is in the woods and you’re going for a rustic feel, you’ll look out of place wearing your little black dress and stilettos. Similarly, if you’re doing an urban engagement shoot, put together a sophisticated look rather than wearing something that’s too laid back. For beach sessions, something bright will be a nice pop of color against the sand and water, but if you go for neutrals, you’ll be drowned out. In an urban shoot with a lot going on in the background, you’ll end up blending in if you wear a busy pattern. Instead, choose a solid to ensure that you stand out!

I hope these tips will make you feel confident not just for your engagement session, but for every day life!
