What are some thoughts going through your mind that you wish your photographer knew about? As a portrait and wedding photographer, I’m here to help make your engagement session and wedding relaxed, yet super fun and extremely memorable!  Read on to find out just how I do that…

Thought #1: “I am not a model!” – As a photographer, my job is to pose you and direct you in poses that flatter you most. If your hands don’t look right there, I will be sure to tell you. If there’s a hair out of place, I’ll play hairstylist and fix it. I’m there to make you look and feel your best!

Thought #2: “Please tell me the photos are turning out okay.” – While I’m shooting, I love to compliment my couples and tell them how gorgeous they are, because THEY TRULY ARE. You’ll find that I say “Aww!” a lot during my sessions and when I continually check my work, and if you ask anyone I’ve photographed before, they’ll confirm that it’s true. I just can’t help it!

Thought #3: “Please find a quiet place where no one is looking to take my photos.” – If you’re uncomfortable posing and even doing a ‘kissing shot’ in front of people, I will make sure we find a remote place for just the two of you. I want you to feel absolutely comfortable and relaxed during your session and wedding. On your wedding day, the bride & groom portraits is a great time for you two to get away for a little, focus on each other, and have an awesome portrait experience.

Thought #4: “We don’t want to miss a thing on our wedding day!” – As a wedding photographer, my job is to capture it ALL; getting ready, pretty bridal details, bridal party, bride and groom portraits, family formals, ceremony and reception spaces, reception details, dances, cake cutting, reception events, candids of you and your guests, etc. This is why I hire a second photographer, to help me capture all of these important aspects of your wedding day.

Thought #5: “We don’t want a complete stranger photographing our wedding.” – I totally get this! From that initial inquiry, I make sure I connect with my couples on a personal level. I meet them for their complimentary consultation, and if they enjoyed being around me and loved what I had to offer, they usually end up booking me. From that point we’ll schedule the engagement session; another chance for us to get together and learn new things about each other. (It’s also GREAT for practicing for your wedding day.) I have made so many wonderful friends just by photographing their wedding. What a blessing that is!

Thought #6: “I want an excellent photographer who is experienced.” – If you like my work, then we’re practically there. The rest of the journey is to get to know each other. Browse my work on the blog and check out the testimonials page on my website and my reviews on The Knot.

I’ve been here before, too. In fact, I’m always thinking these things when looking for a photographer to capture my own family. I have to put myself in your shoes to ultimately give you the best experience possible. I love making new friends and feel that it’s such a blessing to be able to document your love story.

Feel free to comment on this post for any other thoughts going through your mind. I hope you found it helpful and that it put your mind at ease. 🙂
