This past Christmas (well, two days after Christmas) and New Years was spent down in Georgia where some of our family lives. We always look forward to traveling down south to see them and for the fun adventures we know we’ll take on.

Our first family fun day was in Jekyll Island. What a neat place with so much history! In 1886, Jekyll Island was purchased to become an exclusive winter retreat, known as the Jekyll Island Club. It soon became recognized as “the richest, most inaccessible club in the world.” Club members included such notable figures as J.P. Morgan, Joseph Pulitzer, William K. Vanderbilt, and Marshall Field. It felt like summer to my family and I while we were there. Shorts and sandals in December? Yes, please! Needless to say, all of the kids had a blast playing in the water and finding tiny shells. The beach was loaded with big pieces of driftwood, too.

We also visited the Georgia Sea Turtle Center and learned about some pretty cute turtles.

Another fun day we had planned was at Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. It was a little chilly on the day we went, but the kids still had fun, and still played in the water. Brr! I thoroughly enjoyed sipping on a peach wine smoothie from The Carolina Tasting Room. YUM!

Then of course we had to set aside one day where we went back to lovely Savannah. I love walking on River Street and checking out all the little shops along the way. River Street Market Place is also very unique and offers items from Ireland, Costa Rica, Australia, Nepal, Peru, Japan, Viet Nam, China and of course, The South. Our kids love watching the big ships go by while we’re here.

We can’t thank Matt, Sam, and the boys enough for graciously hosting us and going on adventures with us. We look forward to having more adventures for our next trip down south!
