As a photographer, I think one of the toughest decisions to make is what to show in your portfolio. I like to keep it simple, and since I specialize in engagement + weddings, I show off the amazing couples that I’m blessed to work with. Showcasing my portfolio is more than just showing off pretty pictures; it’s telling my couples’ love story and capturing them as a couple in love.
So, how do I choose which photos to put on display? It probably takes me longer to decide on what to show in my portfolio than it should, but I want to show my best work, so I pick my favorites from my most recent work. I love shooting in all seasons, but my favorite is spring when all the beautiful flowers and trees are in bloom. My second favorite is fall during the peak of when the leaves have changed colors. Romantic sunsets in the summer aren’t far behind!
I present my portfolio in several different formats. My website, my blog, slideshows, prints, and albums. I’m preparing for my first bridal show this week, and I will be taking enlarged prints, smaller framed prints, the above wedding album sample, business and rack cards, and a slideshow.
A great resource that I just recently found out about is Social Print Studio. Their photo books are awesome for showing off your portfolio! They have photo albums, photo books, minibooks, tinybooks, and sticker books. You should see the tiny book – so cute! Social Print Studio offers everything from metal prints to calendars, to photo strips to posters, to panoramic prints to enlargements, and SO MUCH MORE! Their prices are extremely competitive and affordable, so go check them out.
My hope in this post is to spread the word of Social Print Studio and all of their awesome products, and to the new, aspiring photographer who isn’t sure what to include in their portfolio or how to show it off.
